3 Things We Know About the Willamette Valley’s 2024 Vintage So Far

All of our grapes have been harvested and are actively fermenting. While it’s too soon to know exactly how the vintage will evolve, here are the early indicators:

1) It was a warm vintage, but not as hot as recent years such as 2014 and 2015. This means that we can expect fruit forward ripeness, but balanced acidity. This is good news!

2) We had ideal conditions at harvest, which means we could pick when flavors were ready as opposed to when weather dictated we do so. This means that we can expect lovely flavors and balanced tannins, as we could let clusters hang until the skins and seeds, which is where the majority of tannins come from, developed. This is good news!

3) It was a “drama free” growing season, so we can expect yields that are not impacted by adverse weather events. This is good news!

All in all, I’m very optimistic about the vintage thus far and am excited to see how the wines develop.
